Biography

Wanda J. Burnside
Founder & President

Mrs. Wanda J. Burnside is an award-winning poet and writer. Since 1970, she has received numerous national and local honors in writing. At the age of 20, while a student at the University of Detroit, she received her first poetry award from Broadside Press. The famed legendary Michigan Poet Laureate, Mr. Dudley Randall, who was the founder of this organization, awarded her with this prestigious honor.  In 1999, she received both “The Writer of the Year Award” and “The Persistence Writer of the Year Award” from the American Christian Writers Association.

Wanda is one of the contributing poets in the anthology, SISTAHFAITH: Real Stories of Pain, Truth, and Triumph published by Simon and Schuster of New York.  This book was compiled by the noted author and speaker, Marilynn Griffith.  Wanda is a contributing author and poet in more than 50 major Christian books such as: Too Soon to Say Goodbye and Wounded by Words true painful stories compiled by Susan Titus Osborn, MA, Karen L. Kosman and Jeenie Gordon, MS, MA, LMFT.  FAITH: Use It . . . or Lose It! written by Dr. Mary Edwards.

 

In 2016, Wanda’s special prayers written for Ireland and Honduras were included in Beseeching Grace:  An International Prayer Collection book.  That same year, Wanda’s poem, “For Real,” was published in Blessed Creation: a Christian Poetry Collection. In 2017, her poem, “Beyond My Years,” was selected and published in Menagerie: an Anthology of Christian Writing and Poetry.  These books are a part of the Draw Near collections of Kim Bond, Editor and Publisher. 

 

Also in 2016, one of her stories was published in, Jesus Talked to Me Today: True Stories of Children’s Encounter with Angels, Miracles, and God - a book published by James Stuart Bell Compilations.

 

She has written 16 books.  Some of them are: DON’T MESS WITH ME! Who Do You Think You Are?, Rejections - 12 Steps to Recovery, The Christian Poetry Guide, Free from It!, and more.  Wanda's forthcoming books, due to be published in the near future, are: I Surrender and Mistaken Love…NO MORE! 

 

She has written more than 1,000 poems, 22 performed plays for children and four performed drama productions for adults.  Wanda has published inspirational and motivational posters to bring hope and encouragement in daily life. 

        

Her poems, A Prayer Can Reach Heaven,” “Come to Me,” and several others have been produced as video productions by Webtech Design Group.  These highly acclaimed videos have changed lives around the world with their stirring messages.

                                                                 

Her articles, devotionals, prayers, short stories, and gospel messages are regularly published in magazines, journals, newspapers, and anthologies. Wanda’s work has been published on websites and in online magazines with the Sistahs Ministry, Women ’N Power, The Called and Ready Writers and many other ministries. 

 

She has received writing honors, publication and recognition with The Roberta Heck’s Ministry, Rhonda Welsh Ministries, and other leading ministries around the United States. In 2003, her story entitled, “A Slice of Mama’s Pie” was selected as one of the prize-winning stories in a special commemorative edition of The Michigan Chronicle and the Michigan Front Page newspapers for the “Women of Purpose” competition.

Wanda is:

  • The founder and president of Write the Vision Ministries and Media Productions International. Since 1995, she has published ten gospel tracts with more than 8,000 distributed across the United States, Canada, Honduras, London, Italy, and in Africa (Zambia and Kenya).

 

  • The publisher and president of THE LAMP NEWSLETTER.  It is a bi-monthly newsletter which features articles, poetry, inspirational messages, news, views, social updates, and other vital information. The Lamp Newsletter was established in 2008. Her readership is worldwide. THE LAMP NEWSLETTER STAFF consists of ministry leaders and staff writers in the UK and Australia.  Wanda also has five contributing  writersin the United States of America.

 

  • The founder of seven ministries and ministering activities that function annually as a major event with free specialty gifts and products to enhance the lives of children, teens, women, men, senior citizens, the veterans, and others.  These ministries are:

  • The founder and president of “The Mother Willie Lee Palm Foundation”, established to continue the legacy and vital mission of her mother to help the needy, support youth programs, and give monetary donations to charitable organizations.

                        

  • The president and poetry editor of “The Called and Ready Writers” of Detroit, founded in 1999 by Dr. Mary D. Edwards.  Christian writers’ guild and ministry proving professional services for writers. Offering essential help and instructions for every level of writers to excel and become successful. 

    For over 20 years, Wanda has been an editor and poetry book coach to 300 or more poets.

 

  • CEO of Treasures from Heaven Ministries established in 2011 with CEO and Businesswoman Author Ramelle T. Lee of Detroit, MI.  This is a joint business to encourage, empower and touch the lives of others with their exclusive ministry items, writings, books and specially-designed products that lift up Jesus Christ.​
     

  • Since 2015, Reviewer and advisor of Christian books available on Amazon.com.  She is responsible for reading and evaluating selected Christian books from publishing companies who want to sell certain books on Amazon.
     

  • Since 2016, Radio host of “RESTORE! RESTORE!” aired on Tribe Family Network, broadcast on the second Sunday of each month.  Ms. Beverly Black Johnson, founder and CEO of Gumbo for the Soul.
     

Wanda is the former:

  • Administrator of the Café of Christian Books in “The Sistahs Ministry International” co-founded and directed by Reverend Celeste Kelley. She selects and promotes the work of authors and poets around the world.  
                                                                

  • Editor and staff writer of The Detroit Church World Magazine in the 1980's. Bishop Floyd Mitchell was the founder and chief editor.
     

She was:

  • In 1970’s, the coordinator and editor of the Marygrove College Course Directory in Detroit, MI.
     

  • In 1970’s, a Federal Government employee – Federal Court in Detroit, MI
     

  • In 1968, employed with Blue Cross and Blue Shield.
     

  • In mid 1960’s, employed with Head Start Department in Detroit, MI.                                                              
     

In 1972, she graduated from the University of Detroit with a B.S. in Humanities/Early Education. Wanda has taught grades K-7 in public and private schools in the Detroit area.  She has also tutored students in middle school and high school. 
 

In 2010 and 2016, she was on staff as the poetry instructor, advisor, consultant, and editor at the Maranatha Christian Writers Conference in Muskegon, MI. She continues to work with her students in their efforts to publish their poetry and poetry books.  Wanda privately tutors those who display an interest to master their skills in writing poetry.
 

In 2017, Wanda was selected to write a commemorative overview on the Maranatha Christian Writers Conference honoring their 45th Anniversary.
 

Wanda is certified in several Christian ministries from William Tyndale College. Wanda further pursued Christian education at Charles Harrison Mason Church of God in Christ Bible College in Detroit. She is one of their founding students.
   

Her parents, Elder Minor Palm, Jr. and Missionary Willie Lee Palm, trained her as a child to serve the Lord. She has faithfully served her church, Greater Miller Memorial Church of God in Christ. where the late Bishop Earl J. Wright, Sr. was the pastor. 
 

Wanda taught Sunday School for over 35 years, worked for more than 20 years in the Vacation Bible School Dept., served as the Public Relations director for nearly 40 years, and other areas of leadership in the church.  She was the director of the Greater Miller Memorial African-American History Department. Wanda also actively served in the choir, usher board, missions, and several other departments. She was Bishop Wright’s executive secretary for nearly 20 years.  She served in leadership in the Second Ecclesiastical Jurisdiction of Southwest Michigan Church of God in Christ, Inc.
 

Throughout the years, she has received many distinguished awards for church and community services. In 2016, she was selected to be a board member on the National Council of Women of the United States at the United Nations by Saideh Browne the President of the National Council of Women. In 1990, The Congress of national Black churches presented Wanda with “The Laity Leadership Award.” The following year, in 1991, The Association of Christian Business Owners honored her with “The Founder’s Award” for outstanding service to the Church of God in Christ by a Layperson.

  • 2013 -   “Business Spotlight” from the Ladies of Destiny and Purpose International – Praising and Sharing with My Sisters,  Minister Towana Parker, Founder and Executive Director of Ypsilanti, MI.
     

  • 2013- “Featured Member Award” – The Divine Introduction Honors from the Revealed International Women’s Empowerment Network, Inc., Minister Tarsha Campbell, Founder and President, Orlando, FL.
     

  • 2013 – _"6th Annual Spirit of Deborah Organizational Recognition”– from Dr. Naima Bush Johnson, Founder of Broken Boxes Ministries, Florida.
     

  • 2015 and 2016 – “Women of Wonder” special honors and recognition for the Annual National Women’s History Month featured in the Detroit Native Sun News. Valerie Lockhart, Publisher and CEO.

     

Wanda is a masterful award-winning cook.  Her recipes have won prestigious awards from Faygo Beverages, Progressive Soups, Weight Watchers, Thorn Apple Valley and several other national companies. “The Detroit Writers Guild” selected her “Sweet Potato Oatmeal Cookies Recipe” as a winner in their contest. It appears in their historical cookbook titled, Spirit.
 

In 1972, Wanda married Mr. Simmie Lee Burnside, Jr.  He is a devoted husband and manager of Write The Vision Ministries and Media Productions International.  Simmie actively serves in various other church ministries.  They live in Detroit, MI.
